Hello, this is Marie-Tabi Japan👋 In this article, I’m sharing my honest review of OMO5 Hakodate by Hoshino Resorts, a hotel that opened in 2024 and has quickly become popular with travellers visiting Hakodate.
I chose this hotel because it’s often featured in travel magazines as one of the best hotels for breakfast in Hakodate, and it’s also very close to Hakodate Station. After staying for 2 nights and 3 days, here’s what I really thought.
Why You’ll Love This Hotel

• Excellent breakfast featuring local seafood, sushi and Hakodate-style ramen
• Very comfortable onsen and lounge area with an outdoor fire pit
• One of the best locations in Hakodate – walkable from the station and morning market
📍 Hotel Information
🧳 Stay Details
For a sightseeing-focused trip to Hakodate, the balance between price and quality felt just right.

🚶 Location & Access
The hotel is only a 5-minute walk from Hakodate Station, which makes arrival and departure very easy – even with a suitcase.
Nearby spots include:

• Hakodate Morning Market: about 7 minutes on foot
• Plenty of restaurants and bars nearby for dinner
• Tram and bus stops within walking distance
🏨 First Impressions
Exterior & Lobby

The exterior looks modern and stylish. Inside the lobby, there’s a large stained-glass-style artwork showing Hakodate landmarks and local food, which instantly sets the travel mood. Staff were friendly and explained everything clearly in simple English.
Luggage Storage

Free self-service lockers are available in various sizes. Large suitcases fit easily, so you can explore the city before check-in without any stress.
🛏️ Rooms & Amenities
Twin Room

The room is compact but perfectly fine if you mainly use it for sleeping. Each person gets a proper bed, and the mattress was comfortable enough for a good night’s sleep. There’s a desk, charging points, and a clever use of space.
Bathroom

There’s no bathtub, only a shower cubicle. It’s clean, with good water pressure. Since the hotel has a large onsen, this didn’t bother me at all.
Amenities

• Toothbrushes, razors and green tea are available at the amenity bar near reception
• Towels, a hairdryer and hotel loungewear are provided in the room
🧖♀️ Onsen & Lounge – A Highlight of OMO5 Hakodate
Natural Hot Spring Onsen
The onsen uses natural hot spring water, which has a slightly amber colour. It warms you up deeply, perfect after a long day of walking. There’s also a sauna and cold plunge pool. After bathing, you can enjoy free detox tea, which was a lovely touch.
Lounge & Outdoor Fire Pit

The lounge has hammock chairs and various seating options where you can relax quietly. You can also buy ice cream and light snacks at the shop.

In the evening, the outdoor fire pit area is especially nice. Sitting by the fire in the cool night air was one of my favourite moments of the stay.
🍽️ Breakfast Review – Truly Impressive

Breakfast is accessed using the receipt given at check-in.

I went around 8:00 am and only waited a couple of minutes. The dining area is spacious and well organised.
What’s on the Menu?
Seafood is the star here.

• DIY Seafood Bowl (inspired by Goryokaku Fort): Top your rice with salmon, scallops, sweet shrimp and more
• Fresh Sushi: Chefs prepare sushi right in front of you
• Mini Hakodate Specialties: Scallop salt ramen

• Desserts: Soufflés, cakes and more
• Hakodate Milk: Rich and very tasty
Honestly, the quality felt similar to eating at the morning market – but without the crowds. If breakfast matters to you, this alone makes the hotel worth booking.
