What is Leonard’s?

Leonard’s shop in Hawaii

Leonard’s first opened in 1952 in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. Over the years, it’s become famous for its malasadas—Portuguese-style doughnuts that are deep-fried and coated in sugar. In Hawaii, long queues are the norm, with locals and tourists alike flocking to get a taste.

Leonard’s finally made its way to Japan in December 2020, opening its first and only international branch in Yokohama. Since then, it’s gained a loyal following and continues to trend on social media.
